Rosenborg vs Austria Vienna

Having in mind that the players of Rosenborg are doing very well in the title race as for domestic league, it’s time for maybe the most important match of the season for them now. The team will meet Austria and has a 2:1 defeat from the first leg, being obligated now to get a victory in order to keep the chances and their good momentum from the locker room.

The target of the club was to reach the group stage of any European competition, so in case they don’t win tonight, it will be considered as a failure so the team will need to start attacking from the first minute, trying to seal the deal already during ninety minutes. As said, they have dominated in the domestic league this season, having twelve points difference in comparison to the first followers from Odd, having a run of twenty consecutive matches without defeat in the Norwegian league.

Last Sunday they took a draw in a match away to Brann, trying obviously to save some energy for this game which comes as more important. They were 2:0 down in the first leg, but late goal from Reginiussen gave them some serious hope ahead of the returning leg. Winger de Lanlay (17/2) is injured and won’t be playing anymore in the current season. Main goalkeeper Hansen (14/0) also won’t be playing due injury, while they welcome back midfielder Midtsjo who served his suspension in the domestic league against Brann.

Austria Vienna was so close to avoid conceding a goal in the first leg and could have be in much better position ahead of the returning leg. Still, their performance in the first leg was successful and a 2:1 victory is surely a positive result for their side. The team went quite sluggish into the match and threatened very little, being actually just a mediocre opponent.

As the time progressed, they started being more and more concrete, making a great entrance into the second halftime with two goals in first eight minutes, scoring goals via Grunwald and Pires. Finally, they conceded a goal in first minute of additional time to make the things even more interesting in the second leg. As for the domestic league, they are back to winning ways, getting a three pointer against Altach in a 3:1 victory last weekend. It was good to see them winning again, after their defeats to Rapid and Sturm where they conceded seven goals.

The team is now only fifth at the table, but with three points difference to the top of it. Their manager Fink tried to keep the low profile, saying that his team remains underdog despite the victory in the first leg. He can’t count at midfielder Prokop for today’s game, but anyway didn’t play till now in the season. Forward Ronivaldo remains really long term absentee.

Very open game is what I expect here, since neither of the teams play defensively. Apart from that, result from the first leg says that this match also needs to be attacking and offensive, since I really doubt that the teams will go into the last quarter of the game in goalless style. It wouldn’t surprise me if we see both teams scoring and four or five goals overall.
