Atalanta vs Torin

Atalanta have featured in two very exciting matches, including a seven goal thriller against Lazio on matchday one, but were unable to get anything out of that game. It was the same story against Sampdoria, which they lost 2-1, meaning that La Dea have yet to earn any points this season.
Their attack has looked industrious, with four scored over those two games, but their leaky defense has cost them dearly as they have already shipped six goals. Meanwhile, their next opponents, Torino, will be feeling confident after cruising to a 5-1 win over Bologna before the international break.
With Giampiero Ventura now on the Azzurri bench, the Granata are presently being led by Siniša Mihajlović. The Serbian tactician did not enjoy his trip to the San Siro to take on former side AC Milan on opening day, but Torino more than made up for that 3-2 loss with an excellent result against Bologna.
This fixture will likely garner a bit more attention than usual. The reason? Torino’s recent signing of Joe Hart, who made history without even touching the ball. The Manchester City man is the first ever English shot-stopper to feature in Serie A. And this will certainly pique the interest of non-calcio fans to see how he fares in between the posts for his new side.

Atalanta vs Torino: Head-to-head statistics

  • Last season, Torino averaged 1.42 goals/match on the road. The league average was 1.11/game.
  • 68 per cent of their away fixtures resulted in over 2.5 goals
  • Atalanta, meanwhile, averaged 1.42 goals/match at home. The league average was a bit higher, at 1.47/game
  • 42 per cent of their home fixtures resulted in over 2.5 goals
  • Discipline is a problem in this tie. In three out of the past Atlanta-Torino matches, at least one team has had a man sent off
  • Atalanta haven’t beaten Torino since September 2013. Since then, La Dea have lost four out of their last five meetings, including this same fixture least season

Atalanta vs Torino: Prediction

Torino’s top marksman last season, Andrea Belotti, has picked up right where he left off, with four out of his team’s seven goals, including a hat-trick against Bologna. However, a thigh complaint may put his participation in doubt for this fixture. Regardless, with seven goals so far, the Granata are the highest scoring side after two rounds and they will definitely have no problems adding more in this match.
Atalanta, despite looking promising, will have a tough time in this game and will have to keep cool heads to avoid finishing with all 11 men on the pitch. La Dea will certainly put up a good fight, but the Granata will have just that extra bit of verve to see them off. Expect more misery for Atalanta as they narrowly lose to Torino. A clean sheet, however, for Hart on his debut is not a guarantee as the match finishes 2-1.
